At Scholastica Preparatory, we believe that each child is exceptional, defined by special talents and abilities as well as a preferred learning style that must be understood, valued and fostered. We understand that children progress and learn in different ways and at different rates and that all areas of learning and development are not only important but also deeply inter-connected.
We view our pupils as naturally-accomplished learners from birth, imbued with curiosity, resilience, capability and confidence. Our learning pedagogy is designed around experiential learning situated in and outside that classroom which strengthens these qualities. We focus on developing positive supportive relationships which scaffold our pupils to adopt a discovery-based approach towards learning, empowering them to observe, question, discover, act and reflect while making connections between existing schema, new knowledge and future learning. Mistakes are viewed not as failures but opportunities to learn by means of reflection and self-adjustment. We recognize that the learning environment is key to fostering the child’s development. Therefore, we enrich our program of learning with different kinds of input whether in the form of curricular materials and stimuli, teaching methodologies, social interactions or the natural environment that stimulate the child to explore, observe, analyze, hypothesize and test his or her conclusions.
At Scholastica Preparatory, we provide a focused, academically robust and well-integrated curriculum designed to advance and deepen our learners’ understanding of a broad swath of subjects. Primarily underpinned by the learner-centered, experiential and relationship-based Reggio Emilia pedagogy, our curriculum draws upon best practices from aligned pedagogies such as the EYFS and the Finnish model, with fidelity to the Single National Curriculum benchmarks. Our curriculum is responsive to the developmental stages of each academic level on offer at Scholastica Preparatory, and within the curriculum, our teachers ensure that the ages, abilities and needs of all our learners are met to the fullest.
The aim of The Scholastica Preparatory curriculum is to:
• nurture and maintain the learners’ curiosity about the world and foster their love of learning in a supportive environment that is responsive to individual learning styles and needs
• develop their capability for thinking independently and exercising their imagination and creativity
• provide an environment in the early years within which equal attention is paid to the development of learners’ finer senses and motor skills, connections in interaction with people and places as well as their digital literacy
• enable learners to connect with nature and place by interacting with the natural environment accessible in the school grounds and play spaces
• furnish a safe and regulated environment defined by clear boundaries and routines which promote extended participation and engagement with teachers, peers and learning
• set out robust academic expectations for the development of learners’ skills in numeracy, literacy, sciences, music and art
• ensure the physical, emotional and moral development of our learners with a focus on helping them to understand and accept social and cultural diversity and to demonstrate mutual respect and tolerance
• provide a safe space for children to learn, capitalize on their strengths, grow as individuals and to reflect on improving as learners and persons along their journey
Our Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Kindergarten classes offer a secure and caring learning environment with a focus on learners’ physical, mental, and emotional health and well-being. In addition to furnishing curricular knowledge, we strive to ensure that our learners develop key literacy and numeracy skills, artistic abilities and interests and a general knowledge and understanding of the world. Intellectual enrichment is ensured through a stimulating programme of class trips and extracurricular activities.
